Temaki – The Recipe For A Longer Life

At Temaki House, our temaki — also known as a sushi hand roll — are not only fast and convenient meals, each delicious cone is chock-full of fresh ingredients that feed the soul and nourish the body. Every roll of temaki contains a perfect balance of grain, vegetable and protein. Here’s how these ingredients create a meal that leads to a healthier, happier, and ultimately longer life.

Good Grains

Temaki rolls contain less rice than traditional rolls, allowing for a larger ratio of proteins and vegetable. And at Temaki House, you can even choose between white or brown rice. Brown rice has not been refined, so the grain remains full of proteins and fiber, and vitamins and minerals — such as thiamine, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Brown rice is also rich in selenium, which reduces the risk for developing illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and arthritis. It is also low on the glycemic index, which reduces insulin spikes making it a smart choice for those watching their weight, or those suffering from diabetes.

Powerful Proteins

Whether you choose fish or tofu in your temaki, rest assured that the protein will pack a lot of punch. It is no secret that fish is among the healthiest foods on the planet as it is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamin D, and selenium. Both salmon and tuna are excellent sources of vitamin D — which your body needs in order to absorb calcium and keep bones strong, and omega-3 fatty acids. Besides guarding your body against heart disease and stroke, omega-3s also aid in prevention of depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

If you’re a vegetarian, or simply don’t care for fish, don’t fret. Tofu is another source of protein option that contains all eight essential amino acids as well as iron, calcium, manganese, selenium, phosphorous, magnesium, zinc and B1. Tofu, which is made from the soy bean, contains a chemical with a similar structure to estrogen — which may even reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Mega Veg

Temaki rolls also contain nutrient-dense vegetables such as avocado, carrot and cucumber. Avocados are an all-star when it comes to veg, with each serving offering fiber, healthy fats, and nearly 20 vitamins and minerals. Just to name a few … potassium (which helps control blood pressure), lutein (which keeps your eyes in working order), B vitamins (fight off disease and infection), and folate (crucial for cell repair in pregnant women). Carrots are also impressive veggies — offering plenty of the antioxidant, beta-carotene — that improve your vision and slows down the aging process. Besides helping to hydrate your skin from within, cucumbers are also an excellent source of life-giving vitamins and minerals, so eat up!

Super Seaweed

When it comes to temaki, even the wrapper is good for you. Made of dried crunchy seaweed, known as nori, the wrap surrounding a temaki roll contains high levels of iodine, B vitamins, unsaturated fatty acids, amino acids, and minerals. Iodine promotes healthy thyroid gland function — which is imperative to a fully functional body and optimal health. Nori contains high levels of vitamin B12, which is responsible for the smooth functioning of nerves and keeps your red blood cells healthy, keeps you energized and at the top of your game.
