Soup bowls. Salad bowls. Finger bowls. Pasta bowls. So many good foods come in bowls, don’t you think?
At Temaki House, we take great pride in serving a complete meal in a bowl — or what we refer to as a “don,” the Japanese term for bowl. Short for “donburi,” these easy-to-make food bowls gained popularity among Japanese moviegoers who enjoyed a satisfying rice dish instead of munching on popcorn during the movie.
Now a staple in the Japanese diet, our dons feature a variety of meat, fish and veggie toppings served on a generous bed of white or brown rice — or customized with salad greens. Similar to the Hawaiian Poké (pronounced “Poh-Kei” or “Poh-Key”), we blend flavors from land and sea to create a tasty and healthy meal in a bowl.
Get a Jump on Spring at Temaki House
Spring forward into March with an affordable lunch or dinner option that will leave you feeling satisfied, and not like one of those slugs starting to emerge through the spring thaw.
If your tastes lean more toward traditional American fare, try building your don with chicken, baked tuna, or even tuna or chicken salad. If eating fish on Fridays is a special ritual in your family, serve the clan their own personal dons with tuna, salmon, crab or mahi-mahi.
At Temaki House, we let you build your own healthy don. Starting with the rice and protein of your choice, we add your favorite veggie, such as avocado, carrots or cucumbers, then mix in some yummies, such as bacon, mushrooms or jalapeño, and top with a sauce, such as our spicy mayo, eel sauce or Brazilian cream cheese. And, voila! A meal for the entire family. You won’t even notice losing that precious hour for Daylight Saving Time this weekend.
Dons and Downtown
While Indiana weather in March teases us all with glimpses of warmer spring temps, plenty of hot happenings are scheduled in Downtown Indianapolis this month.
Plan to stop by Temaki House for a quick meal before attending St. Patrick’s Day festivities, the Pink concert at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the NCAA Division III Mens & Womens Swimming and Diving Championship at the Indiana University Natatorium, Indiana Comic Con at the Indiana Convention Center, or Easter Weekend at the Indianapolis Zoo.
Once you find us tucked away inside the Salesforce Tower, we’ll even build one of our signature dons for you. The “Indy” is a local favorite concocted with bacon, rice, salmon, shimeji mushrooms and spicy mayo. Or maybe a sunny “California” is what your taste buds need, with rice, crab, mango, cucumber and Brazilian cheese?
Trust our chefs to create the perfect meal, no matter your preference for spicy, bland or somewhere in the middle. And stop in on Fridays for FREE DRINKS served with any purchased entrée. Our dons are stacked and waiting to be filled.
